Mindfulness Intensive
Meditation for stress reduction and healing
Date: 23-30th September 2012
Location: La Canada, Andalucia, Spain
Mindfulness meditation, adapted for the West in the form of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is rapidly being adopted as an effective practice to lower chronic stress, manage emotions and persistent thought patterns, and increase well-being.
By internally shifting from "doing-mode" into "being-mode" you can develop new ways of responding to the challenges that life presents; deal more effectively with stress and worries; face illness and pain with greater confidence; restore balance; relax more easily; gain more enjoyment in life; become more centred, grounded and peaceful; and improve your ability to focus, concentrate and learn.
This Intensive course counts as the equivalent of the eight-week MBCT course for those who want to take it further and enter the pathway of becoming mindfulness teachers themselves.
The course will be run at La Cañada in Orgiva, Andalucia, Spain.
The region is called La Alpujarra, an unspoiled Natural Park in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, deep in the south of Spain. Part of the area has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, with many unique or rare species. Its skies are officially rated as the cleanest in Europe.
We will be at 1300 feet in a fertile valley surrounded by magnificent mountain views.
The local town is Órgiva, the regional administrative centre, a 15-minute walk away. It has a typical weekly market, banks and all basic shopping facilities. Further up in the mountains is a string of wonderful villages (many protected from development by special status) tucked into sheltered hillsides amidst glorious scenery at heights up to 5700 feet.
Nearby, Granada has the finest Moorish palace and gardens in Europe, the breathtaking Alhambra - one of the wonders of the world.
At La Cañada you will either stay in beautiful cottages in the lush green grounds. Most have two bedrooms, a kitchen and two bathrooms, and are very near the spacious swimming pool. Accommodation in the main house is mostly with en-suite bathrooms; only two rooms have external but very near bathrooms. All bedrooms are for single or double occupancy. The room charges reflect different levels of value.
We will provide a substantial vegetarian lunch and food for breakfast and evening snacks, which you can prepare in the main kitchen or in your cottage kitchen. Orgiva has a range of good quality restaurants for evening meals. We will also provide dinner on the first and last nights. The meals are included in the course fee.
Yoga sessions
We will start every day with a half-hour Yoga session led by a local Yoga teacher. There is also the possibility of having a longer Yoga session later in the week.
